This movie is going to be AWESOME!

I have been following the sightings of shoots in San Francisco on the internet, gathering photos and stuff for an article for the blog too. :) I dont know how many movies are going to be in this series, but evidently both Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes slot neatly within the existing canon of the Apes movies. Both would fit in the canon prior to Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The anomaly is Caesar, who in the original canon was the child of Cornelius and Zira and came from the future. Cant wait!

I am hoping it will be a bit more 'realistic' in the method of conquest. In the originals- it was more like 'battle for the valley of the apes' when they defeated the mutants in the school bus-remember that? :icon_lol:

With what we do know now-real world-about just what 'non intelligent (as in movie)' apes can be trained to do, just think of what these accentuated apes may be able to do--fly a helo? drive a tank? definitely use a firearm. Maybe will see Caesar using Apes (and men?) to utilize a defense network (ours) to use drones and missiles? But that may be a bit too optimistic

And I hope it has at least a nominal nod to an actual world wide conquest.

Im really curious about the side story about the astronauts who were lost in space on the way to Mars. In this rebooted canon, the collapse of Humanity happened in only 4 years, and the rise of the apes has taken place in that time as well. A round trip from Mars in only a short span of time like say...10 years (using some sort of time warp thing) would still allow them to pick up the story with the astronauts after the apes have taken over. Perhaps they will make it much longer? I dont know. But the astronauts are a part of this series for sure. :)

Must be, and it would be a huge oversight it they left it out. They were very overt in introducing the astronauts and Mars to the first movie, it had no other role otherwise.

Im guessing that they will say that those astronauts went through some sort of time warp, and that they will return to earth in the future. But they will know it is earth this time, I think. They will come home to a completely different earth which (by then) will be ruled by the apes. They could slot maybe two more films in before showing the distant future. They need to show us in this next film how the humans lose the fight. I can see from the trailer that 8 years have passed since the last film. He said 4 years to fight the virus, and another 4 years fighting the war with the apes. Im guessing they will show the nuclear war in this film (I hope). How do the apes survive it? Will it happen?

I am really very excited about this film! Andy Serkis will be doing Caesar again. :)

I hope it turns out good.

I do doubt they are following the original movie canon however, as in that canon Caesar discovers what happened in the future and changes history by having apes and humans live together as equals at the end. If they do that here then there would be no enslaved humans future for the mars trip to return to.

Also, they will lose the ability to tell the ape revisionist history if they come back too soon. There will be no mysterious "forbidden zone" or a secret science/priesthood to hide the secret of previous human dominance. I agree that they are not using the original canon, but they are definitely drawing from it. They are telling the same story, only in a different updated way.

From what I gathered from the first movie, it seemed like much of humanity was going to die out cause of the spread of the virus thing? Or maybe I didn't watch it carefully.

Hey, who knows? Maybe that "smart drug" also gives them some radiation resistance (its the movies-just go with it :shame:)

Now that you say it, I can see the future thing with the 'nauts.

I was more along the lines of less fantastic though-That Mars was brought into the 1st movie because we will see a group of "haves (think Elysium, but in a big dome on Mars)" make it to Mars in sufficient numbers and resources to come back later for a "battle for the planet of the apes"-Earth will still be needed for its resources-

Still in the future-just not as far- I am thinking as well, that the Gary Oldman character will join with Caesar and other surviving humans (perhaps pissed they got left behind?) to form a coalition against such an attack.-In future films- maybe "battle" we will see this coalition matured and instead of defending a human/ape valley, the are defending a human/ape world

Yeah, I know-How the hell do I get all of that? Like I have said-lots of time on my hands :daniel_new004: :beguiled:

No, you are correct. :) The trailer tells us that the virus has wiped out most of humanity, and that the remaining humans have been at war with the apes for 4 years. I want to know how the smart ape population spreads, and how much of the globe has been affected. What happened to the R13 canisters which were being produced in the lab?

This movie is going to be good. :)

Well, in the trailer we do see a signif amount of ppl, still clothed and living in some form of civilization. Every "disease" has a certain amount of the naturally immune. But like I said- TPTB can do what they want with the "facts"

Perhaps the "smart ape" process will be handed down through birth? You can have a lot of apes in 8yrs

YES! They did make a point of saying that the R12 passes from mother to offspring. Caesar himself is the result of that. How many generations does this affect? We dont know that yet. And yeah, you can birth a lot of apes in 8 years. They could quadruple the population. That also means that they will have to show younger apes in this next flick (oh, please dont ship them and go drama!). This R13 drug makes the apes actually more intelligent than humans at the same ages.

Lmao, can you imagine SGU style romance with young apes, ahahahahhaa. lol, I had to look up the names cause they were forgettable:

James: *shows a little leg red baboon ass*
Lt. Scott: *goes apeshit* Hey monkey, wanna go to that broom closet in that tree alcove and do it?
James: ahhh ahhhh ahhhhh

I wonder how they're going to transition from Caesar's guardian Franco. Or if they'll just gloss over that.

They can easily say that Franco's character died in the plague. We do know that David Hewlett's character as Franco's neighbor had him at the airport, and that he was infected with the virus. We can assume he spread the virus globally. We also know that Caesar chose to leave the humans (and his guardian), even though he still had love for them on some level.

This next film should have the apes speaking rather fluently too. Caesar was the only one who could talk in the first one, but I bet that orangutan from the circus can talk now too. They are going to have to develop the mindsets of the Chimps, Orangs and Gorillas like they did in the original canon too. We saw in the first film that Caesar preferred victory over senseless killing like the gorillas wanted. It is really hard to look at these new Apes films without thinking about the original canon. :). But the new movies are an example of how the newer versions can vastly improve on the original IMO. :)

Ahh, yeah they could do that off-screen thing. I hope this virus isn't the selective virus thing like in the Walking Dead, where those above an IQ of 80 die.

I'm just wondering if Caesar will begin to feel a sort of kinship to humans maybe and think that maybe they're not all bad. I really liked the first one cause how you could empathize with him; I'm hoping they retain that from the first movie.

Better hope they don't use Bonobos

They are quite the "randy" bunch

Also, believed they are the only other primates to use missionary--just FYI
