There is no way to do Barbarella today. Not really!

It is common knowledge that the original starring Jane Fonda was a great movie but what about the remake? Who is going to be the new star ?

You really cant do a modern day Barbarella. It was too campy and was pretty much made for Jane Fonda. I cant see anyone doing a movie like 1 Million Years BC for the same reason...ONLY Raquel Welch could pull that one off.

I have never seen Barbarella, just heard of it.

If Rose McGowan is in it and strips off I will buy a copy.

The type of woman that Barbarella portrayed was sort of a Gidget in Space, a campy hippy film which was right for its period, and right for the actress who was Jane Fonda. I just dont see how they can do it with a post-feminism/post Civil Rights era audience. I smell a bomb coming!

I was 13 or 14 when I first saw this film & I was blown away............. as was my load in my pants as I sat there & watched it. At risk of squeeing all I can say is "Jane Fonda OMG, like OMG she's amaaaazing".

That film just OOZED sexuality, yet there were no hard core scenes in it at all. It had the feel of a porno movie without the porn. Worth a look see, just to trip out. It was a "B" movie, so dont go looking for a more classic version of Blade Runner!

Stick a fork in her, she’s done, Jim. That’s coming from Robert Rodriguez himself in regards to his much-ballyhooed remake of “Barbarella”, which was set to star his fiance Rose McGowan

. (They are still engaged, right? I can’t keep track of these crazy kids.) Rodriguez tells MTV that after Universal balked at his $80 million-plus price tag for the remake, he got a $75 million dollar offer from a German company to make the sci-fi flick, but the catch was he had to go to Germany for production and post. Rodriguez has now resigned himself to never getting the film made.

Bemoans the Rodster to MTV:


“It was a real bummer,” he admitted. “We had all this artwork and screen tests of what it would look like. It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy—almost like that [1981 animated] movie, ‘Heavy Metal’—version of a ‘Star Wars’ movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great.”

And so, “Barbarella” is now dead, and Rodriguez will move on to, in all likelihood, “Predators”, which has already been set for a 2010 release.

That was close...Barbarella could never be redone successfully today!

Barbarella cannot be remade without Jane Fonda IMO. It cant even be made in this social era. The critics and women's groups would chew it up and spit it out.

There would probably be some criticism yeah. But we're talking about science fiction right? Or perhaps fantasy. Besides the critics there should also be plenty of people that like it or don't give a shit.
