Ok it isn't limited to the USA, Belgium has had a stage collapse too. It too was an outdoor stage that bad weather took down. :( maybe there needs to be better inspections of the stages.

edit- weird side note...the fatality/injured numbers are close to what Indy has.
One of Europe's largest outdoor music festivals was canceled Friday after a stage collapsed during a violent storm in Belgium, killing five people and injuring 50 others, organizers said.
INDIANAPOLIS -- A sixth person has died in the aftermath of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse, the Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed Friday. Jenny Haskell, 22, a senior at Ball State University, succumbed to her injuries six days after the collapse of the main stage that also injured 45 people.

I haven't seen anything about the Indianapolis incident apart from what you have been posting on it but I can tell you the weather was pretty fierce around here. There were frequent and very loud bolts of lightning. And that was peanuts compared to what they got at Pukkelpop. (literally translated that means Pimplepop by the way :P) Those poor people got at least a hundredfold of bad weather compared to here. I live about 70 km away from there. It depends on what you're used to if you think that's close or not. Anyway. They got gale force winds and hail the size of golfballs.

we just had horrendous winds and rain, no hail luckily. the person who runs the state fair is probably going to lose her job because she ignored several people telling her to cancel the concert.
