and Ode to Mike's Pastry...

Back from New England and dealing with winter in Indy- it snowed here and my dear neighbors shovelled our driveway. :) Missing Bostons great food though. The "North End" for those that don't know, is Boston's Italian section! Many great eateries and food stores but the best is Mike's Pastry- the best cannoli stateside! We brougt bak some great "groceries" from the North end - many fun things like fresh made mozzerella- we watched it be made! :) fresh salami, sausages, and lovely imported stuff you can't find n the midwest. Mostly though I miss Mike' Pastry! But we did bring a few of those goodies home too!

Sadly their seafood isn't "in season" in December!:(

Those cannolis look delicious! I have book marked this link. :) Do you have a good TRADITIONAL pesto recipe you can share? I got myself a proper granite mortar and pestle, and I want to make my own pesto the traditional way and not cheat with a food processor. I played this video for making it for an Italian friend of mine and he laughed. He said the dude in the video did not know what he was doing. Maybe you or Bluce could give me some pointers? I have the pine nuts and I will be buying the basil the same day I make the pesto.

I regret clicking into this thread and that link. When you eat like I do, food like that is porn. I'd better get out of here while I still can.

I went to the Mike Pastry's web site and none of their pastries contained salami, sausages, or mozzarella cheese.

I would imagine that mozarella would not last long in a package. Cannolis do now requre mozarella to be real cannoli! Also, Mike's ships the ingredients, not the prepared cannoli.

Dude! Cannolis are made with ricotta, not mozzarella. You're confusing your cheeses. :icon_lol:

My bad! Yes...ricotta. Still, neither would survive too long unrefrigerated. :) Im waiting for a good TRADITIONAL pesto recipe from you! I will be using a mortar and pestle.

oh Jim  if you carefully read what I wrote I said we shopped the eateries and food stores of the north end- not that I only bought from Mike's. We brought home a few goodies from Mike's as well- the cannoli's only lasted until we left massachusetts-- love them!
