Starting today, it appears that Amazon Prime members have access to about 5000 movies and television shows they can watch (streaming) for free.

You can find more information at www.amazon.com

I noticed that today. Amazon Prime is like $80 for the year which is a bit steep for what it is. You really need to order alot of from Amazon to break even on the membership fee. However, the new free video streaming is a nice added perk. I would have sprung for it last year had if I known that I would have bought as much as I did from amazon.

We DO order a lot from Amazon, so it's been wonderful for us...

I spent the day watching half of "Downton Abbey" for free while I did stuff around the house.

They also have an assload of MST3K episodes. (in this case, an assload is over 40 episodes) So I know I'll be plenty amused for awhile. ;)

Are there ads with the free streaming on Amazon? If there's no adds, then Hulu Plus could have some serious competition with Amazon Prime since the $79/year is cheaper in the long run than Hulu's 7.99/mo.

Oh I loved "Downton Abbey"! For a period piece they did a really good job. I also LOVE Maggie Smith ("What is a wee-kend?")! She's the best!

They've announced that series 2 will begin filming next month (March), and the second series will begin airing in August of this year. :)

O Happy Day!

That soon? Cool! I was thinking it would be at least a full year before I got to see the next series.

And yes, there is something truly special about Maggie Smith...

I will never forget that great line from the first Sister Act:

"Sister, what about your vow of obedience?!"

"I lied."

Always good to see her in action. :)

Yeah, she certainly gets a lot of work because she seems to be in everything but I'm not complaining. ;)

The woman has class, pure and simple.

She also appears to have a delightful sense of humor, which puts the lie to the humorless, staid "costume drama" ladies she often plays.

Hehe.

She plays the Dowager in "Downton Abbey" with just the right amount of humor. One could easily dislike that character because at first she seems so stuffy but the way Maggie works the role she makes you come to really like the Dowager.
